Can A Machine Have A Soul?
Bill Lauritzen demonstrates that there is probably no such thing as an immortal soul or spirit. This result suggests that a conscious machine or android should have just as many rights as a human. It also raises the policy question of what should be done about the large numbers of people throughout the world who believe in an immortal soul.
